NSW: Two fatalities take NSW road toll to 12
SYDNEY, Dec 29 AAP - A horror smash in which a driver was burnt beyond recognition
and the death of motorcyclist on P-plates have boosted the NSW holiday road told to 12.
Police were unable to identify even the gender of a driver whose car burst into flames
after veering off the Olympic Highway and slamming into a gum tree at Junee about 12.40pm
(AEDT) yesterday.
"The driver was burnt beyond recognition so police have no way of identifying the body,"
a police spokesman said.
"We don't even know whether it's male or female."
There appeared to be only one occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and
police are attempting to identify the driver through the registration plates.
A 23-year-old provisional male motorcyclist was killed when his machine collided with
a four-wheel drive at the intersection of Brickfield Street and Fennell Road at North
Parramatta about 7.30pm yesterday.
No-one in the four-wheel drive was injured, the spokesman said.
He was the second motorcyclist to die in as many days, after a 23-year-old ran into
the back of a truck on the M4 on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a man aged in his 60s is clinging to life and four others were seriously
injured in a three-car smash north-west of Sydney yesterday afternoon.
