NSW:Man, 17, dies after Sydney street fight

SYDNEY, Dec 1 AAP - A 17-year-old man died from multiple stab wounds after a fight
in a western Sydney street, police say.

The teenager was stabbed in the back and chest and died on his way to hospital following
the fight about 3.20am (AEDT) in Maple Road, North St Marys on Wednesday.

Police said a group of three men, including the man who died, were walking along Maple
Road when two other males approached them.

"An altercation has taken place and one of the males, being the deceased ... was stabbed
a number of times with a sharp implement," Superintendent Ray Filewood told Fairfax Radio
Network.

"He actually was taken to the hospital and in fact died en route to Nepean Hospital."

Supt Filewood said a canvass of the area was being carried out by detectives and a
strike force had been set up by the State Crime Command's homicide squad.

The offenders were described as Caucasian and were wearing dark clothing.

Supt Filewood appealed for information to catch the killer.
