Qld: Rockhampton meatworks to delay reopening

BRISBANE, Jan 11 AAP - Australia's second largest meatworks will not reopen next weekbecause of rising costs and lower international demand.
Consolidated Meat Group (CMG) told staff today its Lakes Creek meatworks in Rockhamptonwill not open for business as scheduled on Monday after the annual Christmas shutdown.
There was no date set for the reopening of the meatworks, which at its peak employs 1,350 people.
CMG executive chairman Ray O'Dell said the company was not prepared to run the businessfrom an unprofitable position.
